I am a self-representing, independent artist who has rarely undertaken commissions; this has allowed me artistic freedom of interpretation and a choice of subject matter which is frequently surprising. I present invitation, appointment only exhibitions in my studio, usually on a biennial or triennial basis. My ‘Polish Stories’ show was subsequently exhibited at Dean Clough; the most recent studio show, ‘Rossendale’ featured paintings of Hareholme and Cloughfold.
I produce works on a range of subjects. I am particularly interested in the narrative qualities and transitory elements of a subject as expressed through light and shade, movement and stillness; these link the aspects of my drawings, paintings and prints.
I do not conform to the stereotype of the ‘Northern Artist’ and find my inspiration not only in the North, but also in my Polish roots and further afield. My artistic style is characterised by an attention to the handling of media, with an awareness of application and the mark making possibilities of each medium – the work is neo-impressionistic in quality as my use of colour, is achieved by the employment of underpainting, broken mark making and layering.
